Class Dismissed: A New Homeschooling Documentary
Class Dismissed is described as “a feature-length documentary that focuses on showcasing alternative education strategies that are working for many families.” It follows a family who pulls their two daughters out of a highly rated institutional school in order to teach them at home. In doing so, they begin to “realize that homeschooling is not just an educational choice, but also a lifestyle choice that affects the very heart of the American family.”
The movie intends to answer questions such as:
- What does it mean to be educated in the 21st Century?
- Is it possible to get an education without attending school?
- Can learning outside of the classroom really provide a nurturing and educationally rich experience in which children can grow and blossom?
It sounds as if it might be a helpful introduction to alternative education, especially for skeptics. You can read a bit more about it at ClassDismissedMovie.com.
The producers are seeking funding on Kickstarter, and they’re very close to meeting their modest goal. Crowdfunding is the perfect way to finance something that may not find funding from traditional sources. It figures that a film about homeschoolers would be financed through a funding path less taken (with apologies to Frost)!
